Sudan junta administration and Turkey pledged closer environmental cooperation, meeting on the sidelines of a UN desertification conference in Mongolia to chart a shared path forward.
Sudan’s environment chief, Suleiman Al-Buni Suleiman, met Turkish Deputy Environment Minister Fatma Karabe to discuss climate finance, technology transfer and capacity building between the two nations.
Al-Buni praised Turkey’s upcoming presidency of COP31, urging it to turn years of climate pledges into concrete action for vulnerable nations like his own.
He linked Sudan’s climate struggles directly to its war-scarred recovery, citing drought, land degradation and crumbling institutions as compounding threats.
Karabe promised drought and food security would top Turkey’s negotiating agenda, alongside support for Sudanese technology and capacity projects.
Both sides agreed to finalize a memorandum of understanding, to be signed alongside COP31 events in Turkey this November.
