Sudan’s “Forces of the Declaration of Principles” coalition has rejected an African Union statement welcoming a new dialogue initiative in Sudan.
The African Union Commission said the “Dialogue Preparatory Committee” plan could support its roadmap toward a Sudanese-led, inclusive political settlement.
The coalition called the endorsement misleading and warned regional and international powers against backing the process without a prior ceasefire.
It argued that dialogue launched amid ongoing war would effectively entrench Sudan’s division between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces.
The alliance, which includes the National Umma Party and several other political and civil factions, demanded the African Union withdraw its statement.
It urged international mediators instead to pursue an immediate ceasefire under a neutral, independent umbrella before any political talks resume.
Separately, SAF chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Tuesday dropped criminal charges against Sudanese participating in the domestic dialogue process.
