Drone attacks struck several military and civilian sites in El Obeid, the capital of Sudan’s North Kordofan state, early Sunday, including the Sudanese army’s main headquarters in the city and areas around the airport, according to local reports.
Local sources cited by Sudan Tribune said several attack drones targeted separate locations across El Obeid in the early hours of Sunday, triggering powerful explosions heard across the city.
The strikes hit the headquarters of the Sudanese Armed Forces’ 5th Infantry Division, the army’s main base in North Kordofan, as well as positions around El Obeid airport and a site belonging to the Finance Ministry, the sources said.
There was no immediate confirmed information on casualties or the extent of the damage.
El Obeid has faced repeated drone attacks in recent months that have been attributed to the Rapid Support Forces. Previous strikes have caused civilian casualties and damaged public facilities, including schools, universities and hospitals.
In a separate development elsewhere in North Kordofan, the Sudanese army said its air defences shot down an FH-95 drone north of the Kukayti area.
The latest attacks come as fighting intensifies across North Kordofan, where the army and allied forces launched a major operation last week aimed at expanding their control across the state.
Army-linked accounts said the offensive had allowed SAF forces to capture significant areas and push RSF units farther west. Those battlefield claims could not be independently verified.
North Kordofan has emerged as one of the main fronts in Sudan’s war, with both sides seeking control of routes and strategic positions around El Obeid and the western approaches to the city.
