Boulos, Haavisto push Sudanese-led civilian dialogue

US senior adviser for Arab and African affairs Massad Boulos said he held in-depth talks with UN Personal Envoy for Sudan Pekka Haavisto on efforts to advance peace and promote an inclusive civilian political process to end the country’s war.

Boulos said in a post on X that the discussions focused on Haavisto’s continuing efforts to support peace in Sudan and on Washington’s backing for those efforts through the Group of Five.

“We exchanged ideas on ways to work together, and in cooperation with the group, to advance and facilitate an inclusive national civilian dialogue that is Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned,” Boulos said.

He described such a process as a crucial step toward achieving peace in Sudan.

The talks come amid renewed international efforts to secure a ceasefire and establish a civilian-led political process capable of addressing the conflict and laying the groundwork for a broader settlement.
