Sudanese civilian jailed for life over alleged RSF links

A court in Sudan. A court in Gezira state sentenced an Al-Kamilin resident to life imprisonment over alleged cooperation with the Rapid Support Forces

A court in Sudan’s Gezira state has sentenced a man from Al-Kamilin to life imprisonment after convicting him of cooperating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to lawyer and human rights advocate Rehab Mubarak Sayed Ahmed.

The defendant, Salihin Ibrahim Musa Al-Radi, had been detained since February 2025 without trial before he was recently referred to a court in Al-Hasahisa, Rehab said.

She said Salihin had been a member of a community committee formed to organise and protect Al-Kamilin’s market while the city was under RSF control.

According to her account, the committee collected financial contributions from traders to fund security arrangements for the market. Salihin was later arrested by a security cell after the Sudanese army retook control of the city.

Two other members of the committee were subsequently released, while Salihin remained in detention, she added.

Rehab accused the security cell in Al-Kamilin of committing abuses against civilians during the detention period, saying Salihin had witnessed alleged violations and later faced threats because of his positions and statements.

She also alleged that the case was politically motivated.

The outlet Ain Al-Haqiqa, cited in the report, said it had not been able to independently verify the allegations or the circumstances surrounding the court ruling.

The case comes amid growing complaints of prosecutions and arrests in parts of Gezira state involving civilians accused of cooperating with the RSF during the period when the force controlled areas of the state.
