The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned an air strike that hit two trucks contracted by the United Nations World Food Programme in Sudan’s South Kordofan state, killing one driver.

The trucks were carrying food assistance between the cities of Dilling and Kadugli when they were struck. Local Sudanese media reported that the attack was carried out by the Sudanese army.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to protect humanitarian and relief workers and warned against politicising humanitarian assistance or using aid as a weapon in the conflict.

Abu Dhabi renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire and an unconditional humanitarian truce, alongside the unhindered delivery of urgent aid to civilians affected by the war.

The UAE also called for a serious political transition led by an inclusive civilian government that is fully independent of both warring parties and extremist groups.

The ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s support for international peace efforts in Sudan and urged intensified joint action to ease the humanitarian crisis and help meet the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security and stability.
