Trump says he held ‘very good’ talks with Netanyahu on Iran

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he held a “very good” telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, confirming that the two leaders discussed Iran amid growing uncertainty over the future of US military operations against Tehran.

Speaking to reporters at Dubuque Regional Airport in Iowa, Trump said he had spoken with Netanyahu on Saturday but declined to provide further details about the discussions.

The conversation came as Washington considers whether to resume military strikes against Iran while diplomatic efforts continue to prevent another escalation in the conflict.

According to a report by Axios, citing American and Israeli sources familiar with the discussions, Netanyahu urged Trump to launch fresh strikes against Iran shortly after the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3.

Trump, however, reportedly expressed a preference for allowing negotiations with Tehran more time to produce results.

The sources described the conversation as frank, with differences emerging over the timing of potential military action against Iran.

The White House and Netanyahu’s office declined to comment on the reported details of the call.

On Saturday, Trump said negotiations with Iran were progressing but warned that Tehran remained an unreliable negotiating partner.

He also claimed that the United States had largely destroyed Iran’s military capabilities, although one or two nuclear-related sites still needed to be addressed.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts involving Qatari mediators are continuing in an attempt to revive direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that no agreement had been reached, adding that progress would depend on Washington’s response to Iranian concerns.
