The military junta, which took control of Niger, has issued an ultimatum, demanding that the head of the United Nations diplomatic mission in the country departs within 72 hours, as indicated in a statement from Niger’s foreign ministry, media sources reported on Wednesday.
The statement, dated October 10, alleges that the U.N. engaged in “underhanded manoeuvres” orchestrated by France, aimed at obstructing Niger’s complete involvement in the U.N. General Assembly and other international gatherings.
The military junta, which unseated Niger’s democratically elected president in July, has also expelled French troops and the French ambassador.
