South Sudanese children ask for improved education

Amid concerning reports of over two million children being out of school, South Sudanese children urge authorities to enhance the quality of education in the country.

During a special parliamentary session led by children and organized by the charity Save the Children, the young participants insisted that their entitlement to receive quality education be upheld.

The event conducted in the capital, Juba, under the theme “My Voice My Right,” was designed to facilitate dialogue and ensure that decision-makers listen to the voices of children.

Envoys of children from South Sudan’s 10 states participated in the in-person session, accompanied by other children who joined remotely.

The session aimed to serve as a platform for children to articulate their perspectives on factors affecting educational outcomes.

The young participants identified armed conflict, poverty, and sexual exploitation as some of the factors impeding children’s education in South Sudan.

Approximately 2.8 million children are not currently attending school, posing a threat to both their individual futures and the future of the country.
