Baboon kidnapping thwarted by crafty Zimbabwean mother

A Zimbabwean mother recounted how she rescued her son from a baboon’s grasp after the animal attempted to take him away, as she informed VOA (Voice of America).

Petronella Moyo said that her 18-month-old child was playing at their residence in Matabeleland last week when the incident took place.

Upon hearing her son’s screams, she glanced up only to witness the baboon pulling him away.

The baboon jumped on top of the house with her son hanging from its mouth and she said: “I feared the worst. I thought he was dead”.

However, she pursued the baboon and successfully retrieved her child.

Ms. Moyo’s son incurred minor injuries but is anticipated to fully recuperate at Gwanda Provincial Hospital.

While baboons usually exhibit indifference toward humans, they may resort to aggression if provoked, posing a significant danger due to their sharp teeth and claws.
