Rwanda’s government has eased operational constraints for bars, nightclubs, and other entertainment venues during the holiday period.
In September, authorities imposed restrictions on all “non-essential services” to address concerns about “noise pollution” and public disturbances.
These limitations included shorter operating hours for entertainment businesses, which were met with dissatisfaction from hotel, restaurant, and nightclub owners.
However, the state-managed Rwanda Development Board has announced new measures, allowing bars to extend their operational hours until 02:00 (local time) between December 15 and January 17. Moreover, restrictions have been lifted specifically on Fridays, weekends, and public holidays.
“The end of the year festive season has begun, and the government of Rwanda wants people to celebrate and enjoy,” the board said in a statement on Thursday.
These revised guidelines also encompass private events, as highlighted by the board.
Nonetheless, the board cautioned against violations, emphasizing that establishments must adhere to regulations concerning noise pollution.
The measures introduced in September limit sound levels in commercial areas to 55 decibels during nighttime.
