The Commander of the Rapid Support Forces Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo arrived in the capital of Djibouti and met with President Ismail Oguelleh, RSF said in a statement on Sunday.
Dagalo and Oguelleh had discussions centered on the ongoing developments in Sudan, with efforts aimed at halting the conflict and reinstating peace and stability within the nation.
Emphasizing full commitment to the outcomes of the IGAD Presidents’ Conference, the leaders expressed unwavering readiness to engage in negotiations aimed at attaining a fair and comprehensive peace agreement in Sudan.
In a post on X, Djibouti Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said the visit was part of his country’s efforts, as head of regional grouping IGAD, to try to forge a ceasefire in Sudan.
“Next week, as chair of IGAD, Djibouti will also prepare the ground for Sudanese dialogue and will host a critical meeting,” Youssouf had said on X on Saturday, without giving further details.
The visit marks Dagalo’s third this week as he is on a regional tour to try to bring an end to the conflict.
He visited Uganda and Ethiopia early this week as Sudan’s army completed its retreat from central Sudan.
Since mid-April, the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo have been engaged in a war that has resulted in more than 12,000 deaths and over 7 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
