In a collaborative effort with Spanish security forces, Moroccan authorities successfully confiscated 1.488 tonnes (3,280lb) of cocaine.
The illicit substance was discovered concealed within banana boxes in a shipping container originating from South America and bound for Turkey.
The seizure took place at the Tanger Med port situated in northern Morocco. Officials suspect the cocaine was part of an international drug smuggling operation, prompting ongoing investigations by Moroccan authorities.
This interception occurred shortly after another significant bust where nearly 363kg of cocaine was seized from a truck attempting to cross into Morocco through the Mauritanian border.
Morocco has gained notoriety as a crucial trafficking route for smuggling narcotics from South America to Europe.
