30 arrested in alleged child-trafficking ring in Morocco’s Fez

Moroccan authorities have apprehended 30 individuals in connection with a child-trafficking network operating in the northern city of Fez.

The arrested individuals include 18 security guards, a doctor, two nurses, and various health professionals and intermediaries. While the exact number of trafficked babies remains unspecified, sources suggest that some were involved in facilitating the sale of newborns from single mothers to families interested in adopting abandoned children.

Others face charges related to accepting money in exchange for medical services and issuing fraudulent medical certificates.

The operation, conducted by the judicial police of Fez in collaboration with Morocco’s internal intelligence agency, also resulted in the confiscation of prescription-only medication, unsellable medicines, medical equipment, and undisclosed amounts of money from the suspects’ residences.
