30 dead in brutal attacks in Nigeria’s Benue State recently

Armed gangs have unleashed terror on communities in Benue State, killing at least 30 people over three days.

Hundreds of gunmen attacked farms and homes in the Katrine Ala and Logo local governments, local official Justine Shaku confirmed on Monday.

The violence began on Saturday and continued through the weekend, leaving several injured and forcing residents to flee.

Witnesses reported armed men opening fire indiscriminately on farmers and villagers, targeting people in their homes and fields.

Shaku suggested the assailants may be foreigners, potentially from neighboring Niger, though their motives remain unclear.

“These were coordinated attacks, but the reasons behind them are still under investigation,” Shaku told Anadolu.

The attacks have deepened fears of insecurity in Benue State, a region already grappling with violent clashes and criminal activities.

Local authorities and security forces are working to restore order while investigating the source of the violence.

The incident underscores the escalating security challenges in Nigeria’s north-central region, prompting calls for urgent action.
