Algeria expresses concern over potential conflict in Libya

Algeria voiced its concern on Sunday over military activity in southwestern Libya, calling on all Libyan parties to exercise restraint and prudence to prevent escalation and maintain stability in the region.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry emphasized that its concerns align with those of the United Nations regarding recent military movements observed in Libya’s southwestern territories.

Algeria urged all involved parties to demonstrate restraint and wisdom, emphasizing the importance of protecting Libya from the detrimental effects of renewed conflict.

On August 8, Libya’s High Council of State expressed worry about movements by forces linked to Khalifa Haftar in the country’s southwest, heightening fears of potential escalation.

Libyan media reported that Deputy Chief of General Staff Salah Al-Namroush has ordered increased preparedness in the Shuwairif region, anticipating a possible attack amidst rising tensions.
