Armed gang kidnaps dozens of Nigerian medical students

Gunmen abducted at least 20 university medical students in north-central Nigeria, police reported on Friday.

The incident occurred in Benue State, sparking concern over the growing insecurity in the region.

Police spokesperson Catherine Anene confirmed the abduction to Anadolu Agency.

According to her, the medical students were kidnapped late Thursday while traveling on a highway in Benue State.

The students, who were en route to attend a religious event, were ambushed by an armed gang.

They were reportedly traveling in two buses when the attackers struck near Otukpo, Benue State.

The targeted students came from universities in northern Nigeria.

Their abduction adds to a series of recent kidnappings in the country, raising fears of further attacks on vulnerable groups.
