Armed gangs killed six people and kidnapped more than 100 others when they raided Kairu village in Nigeria’s north‑western Zamfara state on Friday, local officials and residents said.
The attackers swept into the community at about 10:40 GMT, firing randomly before moving door‑to‑door to seize residents, lawmaker Hamisu Faru told Reuters by telephone. “They have taken no fewer than 100 people, mostly women and children,” he said.
Witnesses said the assault lasted nearly two hours; many villagers have since fled. Police in Zamfara, a state long plagued by so‑called bandit militias, were not immediately available for comment.
