Bigeria joins BRICS as a partner country

Nigeria has been admitted as a “partner country” of the BRICS bloc of emerging economies, according to the Brazilian government.

BRICS, an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, was established in 2009 as a counterweight to the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations.

In recent years, the bloc has expanded its membership, adding Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Saudi Arabia has also been invited to join, and several other countries, including Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Malaysia, have expressed interest in formal membership.

Nigeria, with its large population and significant economic influence in Africa, aligns with the BRICS bloc’s focus on strengthening South-South cooperation and reforming global governance.

This development marks a significant step for Nigeria on the international stage and underscores the growing influence of the BRICS bloc in global affairs.
