A Nigerian judge will hear a money laundering case involving Binance and two of its executives next week.
The date was moved up by more than a month at the request of defense lawyers, the prosecutor stated on Monday.
The charges accuse Binance, along with its financial crime compliance head Tigran Gambaryan and Africa regional manager Nadeem Anjarwalla, of laundering over $35 million.
Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, also faces tax evasion accusations.
Both Binance and Gambaryan deny the charges, while Anjarwalla fled Nigeria before the trial began.
Gambaryan has been in Nigerian custody since February, and his health has reportedly deteriorated, his wife, Yuki Gambaryan, said.
Yuki Gambaryan has appealed to Nigerian authorities to release her husband due to health concerns and has urged the U.S. government to intervene.
The next hearing, originally set for October 11, will now be held on September 2.
Nigerian officials have partly blamed Binance for the naira’s decline, as cryptocurrency platforms were widely used for trading the currency amid dollar shortages.
Binance halted naira transactions in March after a nationwide crackdown on crypto exchanges.
