Mali and Burkina Faso sent fighter jets to Niger in response to a possible military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Niger’s state television RTN, stated that Mali and Burkina Faso are in solidarity with Niger and that they have deployed fighter jets in Niger.
At a meeting of the chiefs of staff of ECOWAS countries yesterday in Accra, Ghana, it was announced that the date for military intervention in Niger had been set.
ECOWAS declared that the troops were ready to intervene as soon as the order came, but did not share the date on which this possible operation would start.
Burkina Faso and Mali, where military governments are in charge, had previously issued a joint statement declaring their support for Niger against the military operation ECOWAS planned to launch to change the course of the coup in Niger.
