Congo says UN exit unlikely while Rwandan troops present

The withdrawal of U.N. peacekeepers from North Kivu in Congo is unlikely while Rwandan troops remain in the region, according to Congolese Foreign Minister Therese Kayikwamba Wagner.

North Kivu faces a two-year insurgency by the M23 militia, allegedly supported by Rwanda.

Wagner emphasized the need for an orderly withdrawal of the U.N. mission (MONUSCO) once conditions allow. The situation remains tense, with ongoing displacement and international calls for sanctions against Rwanda for its involvement in the conflict.
