Kenyan President William Ruto’s selection of Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki as his new deputy has been temporarily blocked by a court.
The decision comes as the judiciary prepares to review a challenge to the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, set to be debated next week.
The high court’s ruling follows the Senate’s approval of Kindiki’s appointment, prolonging political uncertainty since mass protests erupted in June over contentious tax hikes.
Gachagua, impeached on five out of 11 charges, disputes the accusations and is fighting the decision in court.
