Death toll in Nigeria mosque attack rises to 50

The death toll from a brutal terrorist attack on a mosque in northwestern Nigeria has now tragically jumped to 50. Thirty-seven more victims were confirmed dead in the gruesome assault, with another 60 people also abducted from the area.

A lawmaker revealed that 30 worshippers were shot dead and another 20 were tragically burned alive in the morning attack. He lamented to his colleagues during a legislative session that their people “cannot live like this” in their communities.

A police spokesperson told a news agency that the ruthless attackers also burned 20 homes and kidnapped dozens of people. The bandits had already burned down homes in other villages before police were able to arrive at the scene.

Acting Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe has pleaded with the military for more support to combat the increasing security threat. Terrorists, locally known as bandits, pose a very significant security threat to Nigeria’s entire northwestern and north-central regions.

These brutal groups are notorious for their violent attacks on villages, kidnapping residents for ransom, and looting property. Nigeria’s president Bola Tinubu has responded by taking a very firm stance against bandits and terrorists in the country.
