Devastation in Mozambique: Cyclone Chido death toll reaches 94

The death toll from Cyclone Chido has tragically risen to 94 in Mozambique, according to the country’s disaster management agency.

The cyclone, which made landfall last week, has wreaked havoc across the northern region, destroying over 110,000 homes and leaving a trail of devastation.

The storm brought torrential rains and powerful winds, reaching speeds of up to 260 kilometers per hour, to the northern province of Cabo Delgado.

This region has been particularly vulnerable to natural disasters and is also grappling with an ongoing Islamist insurgency.

The impact of Cyclone Chido has been severe, with widespread destruction of infrastructure and displacement of communities.

The government is working to provide relief and support to the affected populations.

Neighboring countries, including Malawi, also experienced the impact of the cyclone, with 13 fatalities reported.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, and the death toll is expected to continue to rise.
