DRC military rescues 118 hostages from ADF rebels

The military of the Democratic Republic of Congo has successfully freed 118 hostages from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), officials confirmed on Friday.

The hostages include 89 men, 25 women, and four children, according to the statement.

The operation took place on Wednesday in the village of Mont Hoyo, located in the northeastern Ituri province.

Officials detailed that the rescue was part of a broader military patrol aimed at securing the area.

During the operation, Congolese forces engaged in a confrontation with ADF rebels, leading to the release of the hostages.

The ADF, an armed rebel group, has been active in this region and is known for violent activities against civilians.

The military emphasized that this rescue operation was part of ongoing efforts to protect communities from rebel threats.

This successful mission underscores the Congolese military’s commitment to stabilizing the Ituri province and restoring safety to affected communities.
