Eastern DR Congo: ADF rebels kill civilians, injure dozens

At least 10 people were killed, dozens wounded, and several remain missing following a brutal attack in eastern Congo.

The assault, carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), struck the town of Oicha-Tenambo late Tuesday evening, plunging the community into chaos.

“The attack occurred between 8 and 9 p.m., leaving devastation in its wake,” said Lucha civil society member Ngalukie Hernest.

Witnesses report that the attackers used guns and machetes to target civilians, leaving a trail of destruction.

Several houses were reduced to ashes, and a local school was set on fire during the attack.

Inhabitants fled en masse, abandoning their homes in a desperate bid to escape what Hernest called “senseless violence.”

The attack shattered a brief period of calm that had recently settled over localities in the Beni region.

The ADF, originally formed in Uganda, has intensified its deadly activities in Congo’s Kivu region in recent years.

Known for its brutality, the group employs terror tactics, targeting civilians and security forces alike.

The latest attack underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis fueled by armed group activity and systemic insecurity in the region.
