On Sunday, Egypt engaged in discussions with key figures from Hamas and Israel, along with other intermediaries, in an attempt to revive negotiations for a Gaza Strip truce during the upcoming Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The outreach, directed by the Egyptian presidency, aimed to bridge the divergent positions of the two parties, although specific details were not disclosed, according to two Egyptian security sources.
Qatar, Egypt, and the United States have been working to broker a ceasefire agreement during Ramadan, potentially linked to the release of Israeli hostages taken during the Hamas attack on October 7, which triggered the conflict in Gaza.
The most recent round of talks, excluding Israel’s participation, concluded in Cairo this week.
Despite fading optimism for a truce before Ramadan commences, Israel’s Mossad stated on Saturday that efforts to secure a deal are still underway.
