Egypt delays envoy approvals over Israel’s Gaza war

Cairo has refused to appoint a new ambassador to Israel and has delayed the accreditation of Tel Aviv’s new envoy, according to Israeli media. This move comes amid escalating tensions over the ongoing Gaza conflict.

The decision follows the end of former Egyptian ambassador Khaled Azmi’s term a year ago. Israeli media reports indicate that Egypt has not named a replacement, citing ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza. Egypt has also postponed the accreditation of Israel’s new ambassador, Ori Rotman, who was appointed five months ago but has yet to travel to Cairo.

The delay in ambassador appointments is seen as a diplomatic protest, reflecting Cairo’s growing frustration with the situation in Gaza. A source in the Egyptian Foreign Ministry suggested that the decision is a direct response to the continued violence, with Israeli forces launching attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The report highlights the deterioration of relations between the two nations, long bound by a peace treaty. While Egyptian authorities have not commented on the matter, the move is considered a strong statement against Israel’s military actions.

Since October 2023, Israeli forces have continued their assault on Gaza, with the death toll exceeding 52,900, mostly women and children. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

As the diplomatic standoff deepens, the region braces for further developments.
