Preparatory meetings for the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation summit entered their second day on Tuesday in Cairo.
The summit, set to begin Thursday, will bring together leaders from Egypt, Türkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nigeria.
Discussions at the preparatory sessions focused on enhancing economic cooperation among member nations across vital sectors like agriculture, industry, and services.
Egyptian delegate Ragui El-Etreby emphasized the nation’s commitment to advancing economic relations during its presidency of the D-8.
“Egypt sees vast opportunities to boost cooperation that serves comprehensive development, strengthening shared prosperity,” El-Etreby remarked.
He highlighted the economic significance of the D-8, a group representing over one billion people and a combined GDP of $5 trillion.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry underscored that the meetings aim to finalize the summit’s agenda while addressing strategies to deepen regional ties.
On Wednesday, foreign ministers from the member states will convene to discuss outcomes of the preparatory sessions.
Established in 1997 in Istanbul, the D-8 organization seeks to enhance economic and social ties among its members.
