Egypt hosts summit with Greece, Greek Cypriot

Cairo became the epicenter of regional diplomacy on Wednesday as leaders from Egypt, Greece, and the Greek Cypriot Administration convened to bolster their trilateral cooperation.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi described the 10th Trilateral Cooperation Mechanism Summit as “a model” for fostering stability and development across the Eastern Mediterranean. He emphasized the importance of enhancing economic partnerships, accompanied by a business forum to deepen trade and investment ties.

“The forum marks a significant step toward shared economic growth,” Sisi stated, underscoring the potential for business communities in the three nations to collaborate effectively.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides joined Sisi in discussions that centered on energy, the economy, and regional security. Renewable energy, natural gas projects, and electricity interconnections emerged as pivotal areas for cooperation.

The summit also highlighted recent memoranda of understanding, which Sisi urged all parties to implement for mutual economic benefits.

On regional matters, the summit addressed pressing crises, including the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Sisi called for a comprehensive ceasefire and urgent humanitarian aid access, reiterating Egypt’s support for an independent Palestinian state as the cornerstone of lasting peace.

Developments in Syria and Libya were also discussed. Sisi advocated for respecting Syrian sovereignty and achieving stability in Libya to bolster regional security.

The leaders reflected on a decade of fruitful collaboration through the trilateral mechanism, which began in 2014. Sisi expressed gratitude to Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration for their steadfast support during Egypt’s challenging periods.

This historic gathering not only reaffirmed long-standing alliances but also illuminated pathways for a prosperous and interconnected Mediterranean future.
