Egypt, led by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, is actively pursuing a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, aiming to increase the flow of humanitarian aid and facilitate the movement of displaced individuals from the southern to the northern areas of the enclave.
President Sisi emphasized the urgency of averting a potential Israeli incursion into Rafah, where approximately 1.5 million people have sought refuge near the border with Egypt. Concerns about an impending famine in Gaza have been raised by aid officials.
During a visit to the police academy, Sisi underscored the importance of securing a ceasefire to mitigate the famine’s impact and enable the relocation of individuals within Gaza. He issued a stern warning against any Israeli military action in Rafah.
Egypt, together with Qatar and the United States, is engaged in mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas to broker a ceasefire deal and facilitate the exchange of prisoners.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister also urged Israel to open land crossings with Gaza to facilitate the delivery of additional humanitarian aid.
