The Egyptian military announced Monday that a border guard was killed in a “shooting” near the Rafah border with Gaza, where Israeli forces are stationed. An investigation has been launched.
“The Egyptian armed forces, through the competent authorities, are investigating a shooting incident in the Rafah border area which led to the martyrdom of a guard,” a military statement said, after Israel’s army reported a “shooting incident” on the Egyptian border.
Israel recently took control of the Rafah border crossing from the Gaza side earlier this month, as part of an intensified military offensive in the area, a move that has drawn criticism from Egypt.
