Fire kills 17 students at Islamic school in Northern Nigeria

A devastating fire engulfed an Islamic school in northern Nigeria’s Zamfara State on Tuesday night, claiming the lives of at least 17 students, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

The victims, aged between seven and 17, were trapped in the blaze at the school in Kauran Namoda town, while around 12 others sustained severe burns and were rushed to the hospital, according to state police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, which reportedly began in a nearby house before spreading to the school, said Hussaini Adamu, a grieving father who lost two children in the tragedy.
