Former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok has condemned the ongoing SAF massacres in Al-Jazirah state, describing the violence as “horrific” and urging the international community to take immediate action to protect civilians.
In a statement posted on the X platform, Hamdok expressed his strong disapproval of the atrocities carried out by General al-Burhan’s army (SAF), which he claims have been targeting Sudanese civilians for over three decades, dating back to the regime of ousted dictator Omar al-Bashir.
He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting civilians from SAF, as the latter continues to commit “The most heinous massacres” against the people.
The former prime minister called on Sudanese citizens to resist divisive rhetoric and avoid falling prey to racist mobilization campaigns. He emphasized the importance of confronting incitement that seeks to deepen existing societal rifts.
Additionally, Hamdok appealed to global peace advocates to intensify efforts in urging warring factions to cease hostilities, highlighting the devastating impact of the conflict, which has resulted in over 159,000 deaths and the displacement of more than 12 million people.
The conflict in Sudan has raised international concerns, with the United Nations reporting escalating violence in Al-Jazirah and other regions.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for immediate action to protect civilians and hold perpetrators accountable.
