France releases African activist Kemi Seba without charges

A prominent African anti-Western activist, Kemi Seba, has been released from French custody without charges two days after his arrest.

Seba, known for his controversial views and past convictions for incitement to racial hatred, was detained on suspicion of “foreign interference” in French affairs.

The activist, who was stripped of his French nationality last year, has been accused of anti-Semitism and has publicly praised Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Seba’s lawyer, Juan Branco, protested against the arrest, saying it was politically motivated and part of an investigation into “intelligence sharing involving a foreign power” with the intention of “stirring up hostilities or acts of aggression against France.”

Despite the release, preliminary investigations into possible “foreign interference” are ongoing, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The activist’s arrest has sparked concerns about the criminalization of political dissent and the potential for human rights abuses in France.
