Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has secured parliamentary approval for the 2024 budget, paving the way for a successful hosting of the 13th African Games next year. The budget allocates a total of €14 million, with a substantial portion dedicated to the continental sporting event.
“We are committed to delivering an exceptional African Games,” declared Mustapha Ussif, Minister of Youth and Sports. “Ghana has invested heavily in infrastructure, ensuring a smooth and impactful event.”
The Games will showcase 30 sports, including eight Olympic qualifiers alongside several demonstration disciplines. Minister Ussif highlighted the event’s significance, expecting over 5,000 athletes, 3,000 officials, 2,000 volunteers, and a global viewership exceeding one billion.
Confidence surrounds Ghana’s preparations. “We are well-prepared for the Games,” stated Minister Ussif. “The Local Organising Committee has assured us that all main venues will be operational a month before the opening ceremony.”
However, Kwame Agyenim-Boateng, Chairman of the Youth, Sports, and Culture Committee, urged caution. “While the budget allocation is encouraging,” he said, “the LOC must prioritize ensuring all facilities are readily available for the Games.”
With parliamentary backing and a dedicated LOC, Ghana appears poised to host a memorable edition of the African Games in 2024. The event promises to be a celebration of African athleticism, attracting thousands of participants and captivating audiences worldwide.
