Grass dire at Nairobi airport, flights unaffected

A fire broke out within the compound of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on Friday evening, sending emergency teams into swift action.

The blaze ignited in a grassland area on the northern side of the airport, far from the runway and passenger terminals.

Flames flickered against the night sky as firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the spreading fire.

Kenya Airways reassured travelers that airport operations remained unaffected, with flights proceeding as scheduled.

“The fire is not close to the runway. There’s not been any flight disruptions. They have managed to contain part of it,” said Henry Okatch, a spokesperson for the airline.

The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that emergency responders were on-site, battling the flames and preventing further escalation.

Thick smoke billowed from the affected area, but authorities maintained control over the situation.

An airport worker echoed these statements, emphasizing that the fire had no impact on arrivals, departures, or ground operations.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, ensuring passenger safety remains the top priority.
