An oil tanker was hijacked off Yemen’s coast on Saturday by armed attackers, coast guard authorities said.
The vessel, identified as M/T EUREKA, was seized near Shabwa province, with ownership details not disclosed by officials.
Attackers boarded the tanker, took full control, and steered it toward the Gulf of Aden toward Somali waters.
Yemen’s coast guard deployed patrol boats from Aden and Shabwa, launching search operations despite severe resource constraints.
Authorities coordinated with international partners across the Gulf of Aden to track the vessel’s movements and location.
Officials later confirmed they had identified the tanker’s position and continued monitoring efforts to secure crew safety.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the armed hijacking, leaving motives and perpetrators unclear at this stage.
Earlier the same day, UK Maritime Trade Operations reported a separate maritime incident near Mukalla in Hadramout province.
A cargo ship reported a small green boat and a white fishing vessel approaching within 500 metres offshore.
The incidents underscore growing maritime insecurity in Yemeni waters amid conflict and threats to key regional shipping routes.
