Islamic State-linked group attacks eastern DR Congo, kills 10

Islamic State-linked rebels killed at least 10 people and abducted others in an attack on eastern DR Congo, authorities reported Monday.

The assault, carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), occurred Sunday night in the Batangi-Mbau area of North Kivu province.

Several homes were set ablaze during the attack, according to military spokesperson Mak Hazukay, who urged the population to remain vigilant.

“We will drive the enemy out of our territory,” Hazukay said.

The ADF, an IS-affiliated group, has been blamed for numerous violent acts in the region, with attacks spreading toward Goma and neighboring Ituri province.

The group has been accused of mass killings and abductions, including the kidnapping of children.

Eastern DR Congo has been plagued by armed conflict for decades, with over 120 groups fighting for resources and control.

The ongoing violence has displaced nearly 7 million people.

Earlier this month, the ADF killed at least 13 people in a separate attack in North Kivu.
