Italy seizes Chinese military drones bound for Libya

Italian authorities have intercepted and seized two Chinese-made military drones disguised as wind turbine equipment, en route to Libya.

The disassembled drones were discovered in six containers at the port of Gioia Tauro, Calabria, concealed among fake wind turbine blades. This seizure comes amidst an international arms embargo on Libya.

The drones were found on June 18, following a tip-off from U.S. intelligence, according to a report by Corriere della Sera. The shipment originated from Yantian,

China, and was destined for Benghazi, a port controlled by military commander Khalifa Haftar. Libya remains in turmoil, divided between rival administrations since the 2011 overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi.
