Kabila loses immunity in DR Congo vote

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Senate has voted to lift the immunity of former president Joseph Kabila.

This decision, made by a significant majority of 88 senators to five, follows government accusations that Kabila supports a Rwanda-backed militia operating in the country’s mineral-rich eastern region.

Senate speaker Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde announced that this vote now authorizes the prosecution of Joseph Kabila.
