Five people were killed and another five critically injured in a bomb blast that ripped through the Kenyan town of Elwak on Monday.
The explosion, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden on a donkey cart, targeted a region frequently hit by Somalia-based terror group Al-Shabaab.
Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki confirmed the casualties and the use of a donkey cart to conceal the bomb.
Security forces have cordoned off the area for investigation and are pursuing the perpetrators.
While no group has claimed responsibility, the location and tactics employed raise suspicion towards Al-Shabaab.
Kenya has been a staunch supporter of the African Union mission in Somalia, assisting the country’s government in its battle against the militants.
This support has made Kenya a frequent target for retaliatory attacks by Al-Shabaab.
