Ruto scraps all visas, calls on ‘humanity’ to visit Kenya

Kenya’s President William Ruto announced on Tuesday that the country will abolish the need for visas for all global visitors starting January.

The initiative aims to streamline entry procedures by implementing a digital platform to grant electronic travel authorizations in advance, eliminating the necessity for visa applications.

During an event in Nairobi commemorating 60 years of independence from Britain, Ruto emphasized the elimination of the visa requirement, declaring it unnecessary for individuals worldwide to endure the hassle of applying for a visa to visit Kenya.

President Ruto has been a longstanding proponent of facilitating visa-free travel within Africa. At a conference in the Republic of Congo last October, he outlined plans to waive visa requirements for visitors from African nations by the close of 2023.

Kenya’s economy heavily relies on its tourism sector, which offers attractions such as beach holidays along the Indian Ocean coastline and wildlife safaris inland.

Ruto conveyed a warm invitation, stating, “Kenya has a simple message to humanity: Welcome Home!”
