Libya deports 400 Nigerien migrants by land

Libyan authorities have repatriated 400 Nigerien migrants back to their country by land, marking the first such operation in 12 years.

Lieutenant Colonel Muhammed Bureydia, Deputy Director of the Combating Illegal Migration Unit, confirmed the development, stating that the operation aligns with ongoing efforts to address the issue of irregular migration within Libya.

The Nigerien migrants were provided with the necessary return documents by the Unit Against Illegal Immigration before being transported by bus to their home country.

Libya has become a major transit point for migrants seeking to reach Europe, posing significant security and humanitarian challenges.

Interior Minister Imad al-Tripolisi has previously emphasized the critical importance of addressing irregular migration, describing it as a significant threat to national security.

This repatriation effort reflects Libya’s ongoing efforts to manage the flow of migrants and address the challenges posed by irregular migration.
