Malawi has received a boost in its efforts to combat a pressing food crisis, as the World Bank announced a substantial grant of $57.6 million on Friday.
This “quick release” financing aims to aid the country in responding to the dire situation.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, the World Bank emphasized that this support comes amidst a severe food crisis exacerbated by El Niño conditions across southern Africa.
According to the World Bank statement, a succession of significant disaster events in recent years has left Malawi with minimal recovery time, leading to a critical deterioration in national food security.
