Mali and Burkina Faso forces kill 41 suspected terrorists in raids

Security forces in Mali and Burkina Faso have killed 41 suspected terrorists in separate operations over the past three days, officials confirmed Thursday.

Burkina Faso’s military announced that its forces neutralized 11 terrorists and captured two others during a mission in Nayala province, located in the Boucle du Mouhoun region.

According to the state-run news agency, troops seized weapons and military equipment during the operation, which was led by the 23rd Rapid Intervention Battalion.

Malian authorities reported that a coordinated airstrike on Tuesday by the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) eliminated around 30 terrorists, including high-ranking members of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS).

The strike targeted ISGS logistics in the Menaka region near the Niger border, dealing a severe blow to the Daesh/ISIS-linked terror group.

Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger established the Alliance of Sahel States in September 2023, and on Wednesday, the trio officially withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In response to escalating security threats, the three nations have agreed to deploy a joint force of 5,000 soldiers to combat terrorism across the region.
