Morocco has issued extreme wildfire warnings for six provinces as authorities brace for heightened fire risks through Tuesday.
The National Agency for Water and Forests placed Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Taounate, Taza, Essaouira and Taroudant under red alerts, its highest warning level, citing an extreme risk of forest fires.
Residents living near forested areas, along with workers, tourists and other visitors, were urged to exercise caution and avoid any activity that could spark fires.
A further 24 provinces were placed under orange alerts, indicating a high wildfire risk.
The agency also called on the public to immediately notify local authorities if they spot smoke, signs of fire or suspicious activity near forest areas.
Morocco relies on an early-warning system operated by the National Agency for Water and Forests, which assesses wildfire danger using weather conditions and the state of vegetation.
Authorities said earlier that 310 forest fires had been recorded across the country between the beginning of 2026 and July 20.
Those fires burned an estimated 1,850 hectares, or about 4,570 acres, of land.
