
At least 17 people have died as protests over financial hardships have turned violent in Nigeria.
The government has imposed curfews in five states to control the situation and prevent further unrest.
Casualties were reported in Abuja, Kano, Niger, Borno, Kaduna, and Jigawa during the #EndBadGovernance protests, which began nationwide on Thursday, highlighting citizens’ frustrations.
According to Punch Newspaper, 17 people have died in just two days.
Police officials did not respond to calls from Anadolu, leaving questions about the handling of the protests.
Authorities in Borno, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, and Zamfara have declared 24-hour curfews to stop anti-government demonstrations from escalating and to restore order.
The police have arrested over 300 suspects across several states.
The inspector-general said they might involve the military if protests against hunger continue to grow nationwide.
