Nigeria seeks extradition of separatist leader arrested in Finland

Nigerian authorities aim to extradite Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-Nigerian citizen and leader of a faction of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob), after his arrest in Finland on terrorism charges.

Ekpa is accused of using social media to incite violence in Nigeria’s southeast. While he claims to lead a “Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile,” Ipob has distanced itself from him.

Finnish authorities said Ekpa promoted violence through online campaigns. Four others were also detained for allegedly funding his activities.

Nigerian officials and the military have praised his arrest, calling it a significant step in addressing terrorism. They are now pushing for his extradition to face justice in Nigeria.
